Subject: [Vintage-Scorpion] 1967 Scorpion Restoration - Track Replacement
Greetings,
I need to replace the original 15 inch track of a 67 TAS Scorpion and need some input on a replacement unit. This is my second 67, however, I was 16 years old when my father replaced the track on the first sled. I remember he used a Skidoo track, but, am not sure if he had to use the Skidoo drive system also or what model he got it from. Can anybody shed some light on this subject or steer me in the direction of a replacement track.
Additionally, any help in locating individuals or businesses dealing in restoration parts for this sled will be very appreciated
Thanks a million!
Dave

Dave: I did my '67 S280 with a Little Whip involute drive track. I was able to get the NOS front drivers and track from Dennis Kuntz. You will need to drill the front shaft to mount the new drivers. Also I found a set of bogies from a 18-ich track Stinger II and easily trimmed them to fit and the bogies do not hit the lugs. I think you can do more extensive fab to mod thd original bogie frames to make them work as I have seen at least one done that way. I also added a center bogie wheel on the rear shaft. The rear axle mount has to moved forward and the tunnel drilled for the new mounting location. The same goes for welding a new rear bogie spring mount forward to account for the shorter track. It has worked well so far. Brian
