All this talk about 71 wedge sleds, I became motivated to dig one out, picked my own shed, found a nice one, came to me by chance about 10 years ago. Nice clean, complete sled, the only thing missing was the engine! I don't care, we have lots of motors. Went with a JlO 440 4 bolt. I think this one originally had a Sachs, being as it has the big 43 tooth bottom sprocket. 15" Track, built in gas tank, all steel Para-Rail. It is getting a twin inlet Donaldson Power Tuned muffler, 38 Mikuni and twist throttle. Damnedest thing is, as the wiring was completed,I noticed that I had inadvertently added a dead man switch! Another grass dragger is born? The engine came from the Douglas swap meet $35. It had some bad threads where the motor mount bolts to the cases, seems someone used two long of bolts, and stripped the threads. And beat this, it came with a real nice 34 Mikuni which upon examination got better when I discovered it was a special super rare carb with angled needle seat and floats. These carbs were an aftermarket set up to run on Cat Cheetahs, and shit like that with motors tipped forward.I believe it can be run up to 45 degree angle. It had P-2 needle jet, 20 pilot, and 560 main. The guy said it ran pretty good. I am guessing the needle jet was too small, and the way to big main jet did not even come into play?

This one came with all sorts of Vintage Spirit, it has the bent nail/cotter pin upgrade on all four corners, and a Grain Belt bottle cap in the storage box. I am going to leave it that way. It is a survivor, hoping not to disturb the patina.

Cool. That one looks nice. I'd like know more about the steel pararail. Never seen one in a 71 like that.

I would like to know how to make it move up and down. The thing has lock jaw, I might just leave it that way.
My arms are actually tired from wrestling with those flex pipes. I acquired 1 5/8" flex from an auto parts store, but it fit to tight into the muffler, and to loose on the manifold.
Luckily, I am a hoarder and had just enough of the old original flex to make it work.
You see, a few years ago, a friend of a friends brothers friend showed me an old Scorpion in a grove, and said I could have it. Well, it was a MkIII, melted half way back into the earth, the hood was long gone, like tumble weed.
I grabbed the Flex Pipe off that old sled, and half the muffler came with it. I still have that 1/2 muffler/flex pipe in my hoard and would have used it, but it was the wrong size.
The original flex pipe was extremely durable and long lasting, in fact it was the last survivor on that old Bubble Nose.
Any how I hate to be out of original 1 5/8 flex pipe, and will be searching hard at the swaps,in order to re-stock.

I bring flex pipe to the muffler shop and have them expand it when necessary.
