It is a 70 Rupp 440WT with a home brew JLO 440 free air engine. It was a fan cooled engine, when I started. Not done, but getting close.Recoil cup needs some machine work & welding. This will be a rope start sled.I know, its not a Scorpion, but hey,its red!!!!

Nitro, I like your style!
You start out with a pile of junk and end up with an awesome and unique sled.
All you need to make it perfect is add a few scorpion decals

I sure like your pipe.
Are you going to fabricate some kind of big air scoop?

The headite will stay out, lots of air will go through that.Plus,I think I might put 2 more louvers on each side of the headlite hole & call it good.

So far,all the work on this "Mongrel" sled has paid off. The Yamaha guru came out tonight & worked his magic, once again on this old JLO440. It fired on the first pull & started to pull gas from the tank.Amazing old engine, idles nice, nice throttle response,I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I have a few of my "bugs" to fix,but nothing really serious. Its amazing what some work & ingenuity can produce.

This seems like a fun project.
I like your bright red starter cup!
Nice flow through dash.
Nice tail light and the best part of all...your Artic Cat sticker!

That engine sounds REAL good!!!...and without that telltale signature JLO whine.
I have my fingers crossed hoping that you can keep it cool enough...
Nice job.

I can always run it without the hood!! This winter,"woodchuck" will bring his infra-red temp gauge over & shoot the engine to see what kind of temps it runs.If I had a CHT gauge, seizure would be 425 degrees F. If I had a EGT,seizure would be at 1250 degrees F.There are ways of checking this.Think "SNOW"!!!

Running sled on stand,I busted the rear idlers & guide sprocket.Took axle out & replaced EVERYTHING on it.Like I said before,THEY looked good.I usually run my sleds to see what will break,THEN FIX THEM!! Also found a crappy windshield upstairs in the garage, one bent corner & plenty of scratches. Heres some of the parts that went back unto it.New idlers, new 6205 bearings, used seals........ The crappy windshield. Hopefully it will now make it through the winter.

Nice job there Nitro man, it is always fun to just throw something together with whatever you have, seems like half my sleds are throw together s!
You coming to Willow! I am hoping OBJ will loan me the perfect drive belt for the grass dragger.
I plan to feed him Michelob Amberbock (Dark Lager) until he finally gives up that perfect base gasket thickness.

I will be at WR to watch & cause trouble.I'll be there,Friday, Saturday & leave Sunday morning for Barnum,MN. I'll be riding around on a 80cc Yamaha dirt bike, wearing fatigue pants & a Rupp baseball cap.I might have a name tag on to,"nitroking72" or "Rupp luver",if that will help ya.See ya there.

NO whine because it has no fan.Didn't the fan cause the whine??
I'm building up one more JLO engine,a single cylinder R295 for my 70 Rupp Magnum. I'm thinking that will run circles around my 399 Hirth!!!! Sometimes,SMALLER is better, probably in this case anyway.I can't find any HP info on the R295.Anyone know off hand?? This engine was also used in Arctic Cat. R=racing???
