Dad polished up one of the ski's that Sprocket did for this build and I finally got a chance to take a few pics. I've had a lot of stuff TIG welded in the past, but nothing has ever as pretty of welding as what Sprocket did with these. Just plain pretty. Ski before / after polishing, note the pretty welds We have only done one ski, Dad will start the next one soon. I wanted to get these posted and thank Sprocket for the awesome work on these and for donating so much to the build. We really appreciate it !!! It is amazing how much lighter aluminum ski's are than steel ones. We do need to find some sort of inserts for the springs to ride on. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears. I need to get a spring to see how much room there is on each side to see if we can wrap something up the sides.

Rapid Plating in Sauk Rapids, MN donated the plating for this build. It was a huge cost saver for us. I was responsible for the polishing, but they took care of all the zinc stuff and stripped everything and plated it for the build. They have been awesome to work with and super fast. I drop stuff off and tell them no rush and they have it done in days. Just great people to deal with. Now for the goods. The zinc plating was done a while ago, I just forgot to take pictures before I sent it to Jack. So, Jack got me a pic of the parts. The pic doesn't really do it justice as they look really good, almost like chrome. They were even able to strip and re-zinc the motor plate for us without ruining the rubber mounts !! Like I said, I had to polish the handlebars before they could be chromed. I didn't know that before this, so I learned something. What you see before you chrome it, you see after. So you have to polish stuff before it can be chromed. I had to straighten the handlebars a little bit and this was them after I was done polishing. (involved much, much wet sanding, then polishing with clay compounds on a buffing wheel). I sanded through my fingers until I was bleeding all over at least 3 times Looks pretty good, right ? Almost like it has already been chromed. Almost like there is no point in chroming at this point. . . Right ??

Hey ddub, can you describe the "tank liner"? Like, what is it made out of? The tank liner that I used is POR15's version. There are many versions out there, but I have access to theirs and they claim it is suitable for all fuels. I believe it is all waterborne products. There is a "degunker" (which I didn't need), a metal prep, and the tank liner. This liner is a fairly thin liquid, silver/gray in color. You put it in the properly prepared tank and slosh it around. That is why I had it hanging like so. I could flip it around to get tank liner evenly distributed inside the fuel tank. I used the "cycle tank kit", it is good for tanks up to 6 gallons. www.por15.com/Fuel-System-Restoration/products/12/

All the painted parts are back at Jacks and we are ready to start assembling this sled. They are black and shiny and ready to go together. Thanks Dennis !! Now we need to coordinate some times that work for people to go to Jacks (Menaga, MN) and work on it, or just be there to be a supervisor, or heck, even moral support !!
We are looking at the first weekend in December right now as the first date. That would be Dec 1st if we did Saturday. We want as many people involved as possible, even if you don't want to turn any wrenches.
I think the best way to organize this is to have people get in touch with Jack or myself directly. Soooo.... What are peoples availability ?

Here is where we are at. We originally had taken a tunnel that had a sachs single in it and tried to update it to be the same as a Hirth tunnel. As you know, Hirth 634 motors aren't something lying around everywhere, so some of the stuff was done without the benefit of trial fitting. Once we got to trial fitting, we found The tunnel we painted up had some issues that needed a number of things cut off, re-rewelded and then have body work done again. Obviously it is kind of late in the game for all this. Ok, it is beyond late in the game. Thanks to Tony Hoffer, we got connected with Bruce at Lake Marion Collision in Lakeville, MN. www.lakemarioncollision.com/ They have done some awesome auto restorations, so we should be in good hands. The Chuba brothers donated an actual Hirth tunnel that we will be using now. This should prevent running into any of these type of issues again. We hope anyway. The downside is it is looking like it will be towards the end of December before we get the tunnel completed. What that means to the build is that we will need to have everything else lined up and ready to go as soon as the tunnel is done. Most stuff is ready to go, but given that the schedule is going to wind up really tight in January, every nut and bolt will have to be accounted for before then. So . . . Once we know a set date on the tunnel completion we will set a date on the first assembly build. Odds are it will will be the last week in December to the first week in January. We may put together some sort of "get organized" date before then, but that is still up in the air. To help me out with coordinating it, if you know can help or even think you can, send me your email address / phone number. I will update this post with any dates as we know them, but I will also email or call anyone who gets me their contact info to personally let them know as well. We know this will get a little frantic at the end, so it will help if I can contact people directly. Thanks to all who have helped so far and to all who have already signed on to the project. Now that we have the chassis back (or so Jack has told me), it is time to see who is available for the build. Right now the target date is January 5 in Star Prairie WI. So we can do some planning, who is available on that date ?
Right now I would assume Tom, Roger, Jack and myself are locks. I'll contact those directly who were planning on making the last one, but since the location has moved for the build by a significant distance, I am guessing that will change who can make it.
Please contact Jack or myself.
