Very limited electrical knowledge but trying to HELP a friend. He asked me to try to get his machine running. Said his young son was using it and it just died, so no good source for misfiring or anything else to give clue as to what might have happened. Someone he knew decided both "external "coils won't go bad and installed one. Still dead. I have some small engine time but never on a snowmobile engine. 1. I checked and no spark on either coil ,although the new one shows 12500 ohms to ground. Old shows no resistance. Should't I have spark on at least 1 cylinder? 2. I checked the internal ignition coil about 1.7 ohms on this coil detached. Does this seem about right, I couldn't find specs? 3. With the main engine connector apart should I be able to get spark, thereby eliminating any "wild" ground among the rest of wiring? 4. New plugs.
PLEASE- any suggestions on what to check where to look would be appreciate, although I'm not a guy who just starts changing parts until something works, but will change out whatever (within reason), if I have a good indication as to the real problem.
