Hello,
I just got my hands on a '71 mark 2 400 CCW. I love this thing. Runs great and is in good shape but the track drive sprockets fell apart when I had it out this weekend. I have been searching and found the part number 742600, but cannot locate the sprockets. Does anyone have an idea where I could find a set?
Thanks for any help.

I was just told by a parts warehouse that I would need to know the pitch, number of teeth, and the diameter of the sprocket and shaft. I am not sure how to measure the pitch and there are no teeth left on the sprockets. The sprockets utilize the track windows to drive the track.
Would the rear idler sprockets that are on the sled be the same as the drive sprockets on the front.
Can anyone help me with getting this info? Are there other sleds or manufacturers that would have used the same sprockets.
Thanks

Thats a tough one. You might be better off retrofitting an involute track and suspension off another scorpion. A lot more of those parts around than sprocket drive. I wonder if you have one of the only sprocket drive tracks still in useable shape.

The track is in excellent condition. The track is the type with sections held together with pins. Was this a standard track for Scorpion? I have never seen one. My other sleds have all been cleated tracks.
I got the sled from the original owner with the cover, a tach he bought in '72 and never installed, and the manual. The sled has been sitting for 10 or so years in his garage. There was no spark so I removed the flywheel, cleaned up the points, and she fired right up and runs great. It has the 400 CCW.

I'm still new to this hobby also, but I think the track you have is rubber. scorpion switched to one piece polyurethane tracks starting with the 70 stingers. I have 2 71 stinger II's one with the 400 ccw. both have the poly track with internal drive. I'm surprised you still have the old style track on a 71. I know there are people on here that know a lot more but if I were you I would try to find a donor sled with the poly track. it will be easier than trying to find them old drivers. and yes I think you need to change rear wheels also. but I've been told it's not that difficult to do.

71wankler, maybe you have an aftermarket track called a fastrack. Back then they were the common replacement track. Is it plastic sections? If so these tracks did tear up the spocket type drivers. I have one of those tracks on a 67 and the drivers are just about wasted. I think I may have an old set of drivers for you. If you have what I think you do, those type drivers get so rusted on the driveshaft that the set screws dont come out. I just cut the drive shaft with a sawsall. I would also recomend just converting every thing to a newer scorpion setup. Does your machine have a steel or aluminum chain case? A 72 stingeroo came with the old "manurespreader" track, rubber drive sprokets front and back with a aluminum chaincase. Those early tracks didnt last and they are super heavy. If you can. set your sled on ist side and post a picture of it. There are not very many 71 markII's out there. Does it have a plastic gas tank?

Thanks for the info.
The track appears to be plastic sections. I thought that was odd. There are car tire style studs set in the plastic sections. I would be interested in the drive sprockets if you have them. I am going to the whiteout this weekend and was hoping to find sprockets or a doner sled.
The chain case is aluminum.
It did have a plastic tank but the guy said it cracked so he built a homemade metal tank to fit in the same spot. It fits pretty well.
The tag on the tunnel is stamped 1 14432
I will try to post a pic or two tomorrow.

71wankler, your gas tank does not happen to look like this does it?

Take a look at the attachment I procured from the ultra underground vaults. Is this your track? Attachments:

The first and second pics are of the front drive sprocket and the second pic is the rear sprocket. Pararailer and Admin; You are correct, the track appears to be the Fastrac. Thanks for the info on the track. I wonder what the chances of getting my hands on a set of those Hi-Tuff sprockets is? they are probably as rare as hens teeth. Admin; The metal tank in my sled is similar but not as nice as your pic.

Mike Witham is reproducing the HiTuff sprockets for the Fastrac aftermarket track.
Mike spent time emailing and calling me today to make sure the sprockets he reproduced for his Vikings would work for my '71 Scorpion Mark II.
Mike is even shipping me the sprockets without payment to make sure they fit before I send him a check.
He is a great guy and his contact info is definitely worth keeping.

I will post pics of his sprockets tomorrow.

I got the sprockets installed and everything seems to be good. I will try to post pics later.
Does anyone know the correct track tension for the Fastrac track and where to measure it?
