From page 225 from "Warriors of Winter"by Bill Vint, " on January 1 1977.Glen Mitchell of Byron Center, Erni Branchua of Cedar Springs and 26 other snowmobilers from Grand Rapids, Michigan area began driving two Scorpion Whips around Gun Lake in quest of the worlds 24 hour endurance record. When they finished, both machines broke Mercury's old record.Glen Mitchell's crew, on Whip no.2,ran 1,172 miles in 24 hours.the no.1 team ran 1,107 miles."
We still have the Dealer poster from the record setting event ,I will have my brother(scorpionlilwhip) post pictures of it.

That would be about 44.25 mph average if I figured correctly.
That would be very hard to do considering the time and equipment.
Wow. I think they earn the name "iron butts".
