1970 Stinger track and suspension review

Team, I am trying to get your confirmation on a few things and correct me if I'm wrong.

The 1970 Stinger was the first Scorpion that had the internal drive "involute" track. The Mark series sled never had an involute track in any year. The involute track was then used on all Stinger and Super Stinger models beginning in 1971.

Looking at the picture of the 1970 Stinger bogie wheel assemblies below, notice they are the 3x2 design with three wheels on one side of the mounting shaft and two wheels on the other.

Notice how the front and center bogie assemblies have the three wheels toward the front of the sled and rear bogie assembly has the three wheels toward the back.

Your thoughts on this configuration of the bogie assemblies? Is this the original configuration?

lol good one admin. I got all mine 3 to the front 2 two the back on mine. now when my track was loose i remember my back boggie assembly flip over like the one in the pic when i move it one day. I put it back 3 wheels front 2 back on all three of my boggie assemblys. but if thats not right someone let me know too.

When installing an internal drive polyurethane track you need the five wheel 2 and 3 centered boggy assemblies to clear the internal lugs.

The early Scorpions had a reputation for being a bit "tippy". This was due to the 2 and 2 offset boggy wheels. When the 2 and 3 centered assemblies were installed the Scorpion was much more stable.

I hope I didn't repeat anything stated earlier in this blog.

Seems like I normally install with 3 wheels to front, on all three sets. Otherwise with the 3 wheels to the back, they might rub against the rear idlers?

In the second and third photo, just waking up over here and noticed how wide those internal drive track lugs are. Never noticed that before as they seem to be at least twice the width as the internal drive lugs on moderns sleds?

Hard to tell in this photo but those back bogies do appear close to the idler,
