First year for the legendary "STINGER" moniker that would ride on Scorpion sleds until the end of the 1975 season. First year for use of the CCW 290cc twin. The final year for the "Mark" model.

1972
Introduction of the child's sled "STINGEROO", which was made for one year only, 1972, and the "STINGERETTE", a sled marketed toward the ladies' market. Stingerettes used ONLY 290cc CCW engines. Stingerettes were manufactured in most of the colors the "big" sleds were, but also added to the Stingerette color line-up were the first year for Metallic Purple and of all things, PINK!! First year for the JLO twin-cylinder fan-cooled engine to be on a Scorpion sled. Also the first year for Walbro carburetors, introduced on the twin-cylinder sleds. The smaller single-cylinder Stingeroo, Stingerette, and Stinger I would still use Tillotson carburetors. Last year a Scorpion would use a Tillotson Carburetor. After 1972, ALL Scorpions would use either Walbro or Mikuni carburetors.

1973
First year for the Super Stinger, the Super Stingerette, the Super Stinger 400RV, and the Super Stinger 400TK. Super Stinger and Stingerette basically meant a Tach and Speedometer along with some fancy lettering. Also the first year a Scorpion would be available in yellow. First year the Stingerette was available with something other than the CCW 290, a CCW 340.

1974
Introduction of the "Rockwell" twin-cylinder engine. Those who look close at the serial number will see that it's actually a JLO with a new name stuck on! '74 was the final year for the Stingerette. In late '74, there were quite a few leftover Metallic purple hoods from the soon to be discontinued 1974 Stingerette, so Scorpion stuck together a few rare purple Super Stingers using the 400 and 440 Super Stinger chassis with the Stingerette purple hood bolted on. Since it carried no Stingerette decals, it was in reality a purple Super Stinger! The 290 in the Stingerette was discontinued for 1974, with the Rockwell 340 bieng the only choice. The regular Stingerette was done away with totally, and the Super Stingerette 340 was the only and last Scorpion sled manufactured towards the ladies' market until the introduction of the 'Lil Whip in late 1975.

1975
This would be the final year for Scorpion's successful Super Stinger, and all the Stingers for that matter. Stingerette was gone. This would be Scorpion's first and only year to experiment with liquid cooled engines. It would also be the first triple-cylinder engine in a Scorpion since 1970. For the Super Stinger's final year in production. Scorpion gave it a minor face lift in terms of a headlight relocated into the hood (used to be behind the windshield), and fancy "Super Stinger" decals that went on the sides of the tunnel, hood, and bellypan. The Super Stinger was Scorpion's very last steel-chassis sled. All sleds made in the 1975 season with the acception of the Super Stinger would have aluminum tunnels with a riveted-on aluminum front crossmember and a riveted-on fiberglass bellypan. The gas tank was moved from the front of the bellypan to just in front of the seat. The engines to all sleds (with acception of the Super Stinger) are now located down in the bellypan in front of the torque converter as apposed to the "lap-mounted" engines that had been used since 1966. 1975 was the very first year for Scorpion's brand new sleek bodystyle, dubbed "Whip." and was available in everything from 340cc to 440cc. 1975 was the first and only year for the Scorpion "Brut" which utilized both 340 (twin-cylinder) and 440 (triple-cylinder) liquid-cooled BROOTEN engines. Today these "production race sleds" are VERY rare and sought-after sleds among collectors. First year for "foreign" parts on a Scorpion, the Mikuni carbs on the Bruts. The ONLY year for a white 'Lil Whip. This was also the last year for fiberglass hoods on Scorpions. After 1975, all hoods and bellypans would be made from plastic which tended to break in cold temperatures and was only fixable by replacement of the whole panel. After 1975, the Famous Scorpion Metallic hoods would be gone forever.

1976
The Super Stinger was gone from the lineup, and for the first time since 1967, Scorpion had less than five models on the market. By now, the Whip 400 had mutated to the "Range Whip" which was basically the same thing as a Whip 400, but had different decals. The 'Lil whip was almost entirely un-changed with the acception of a different bumper and skis. Scorpion's only engine manufacturer decided to do the switcharoo on it's name again! This time, it was called Cuyuna, but was the same thing as a Rockwell/JLO. The only differances were the stickers on the fan shrouds!

1977
The introduction of the Sting, which was basically a Whip 440 but with a much bigger tuned pipe, Y-pipe, and different markings on the hood, bellypan, and tunnel. 1977 also saw some changes on the Whip bodystyle. The headlight was sunken deeper into the hood, and the headlight itself was mounted from the inside of the hood instead of the front and utilized no trim ring.
