Hi guys, I have a technical question on setting the timing on a cuyuna 440.
If I want to set the timing at say, 95-100 BTDC, do the point open at that exact spot? Right now the points don't open till TDC?. I'm using an old cam from a flywheel and have points set at .015 but I cant get the points to open at 100 before? I've moved the stator plate clockwise a bit thanks

You have to reach your finger in there and move the little arm in order to check the advanced timing.
There is a good explanation of cuyuna timing procedure on here somewhere. The process is a bit hard to explain, some body should make a video.

thanks Weverat, yes I've read it, printed off the procedure, looked at it backwards, forward, upside down, but it's the little things that go along with it that confuses me. Yes a video would help a lot. I'm one of those guys that watching is better than reading!

you can YouTube the basic procedure setting points with a light or meter.I think they show a skidoo engine but the idea is the same.Bosch plate and points. You just have to take into account the advance spring has to be held to set the first cylinder on a cuyuna I believe. There is a hole in which you can stick a drill backwards in to keep it in place on the flywheel.Just don't put it in too far or you can score the windings on the coils when you spin the flywheel.
