I have a 1978 Whip and I'm only getting spark from 1 cylinder. The sled has sat for awhile so I cleaned the carb (Walbro) and fuel pump. When I checked for spark, I'm not getting anything on the PTO side. Where do I start my diagnosis? Attachments:

I would switch things from one side to the other until you get spark or the spark changes sides. So swap plugs, check. Swap plug wires, check. Swap coils, check. If after that the spark doesn't change sides the problem would be in the stator.

sand your points with 400 grit paper and the clean the points with brake clean. this is a very common problem with a sled that has not been run in a while.i do this every fall to all my scorpions.

Can I get to the points thru the inspection hole? Are the coils interchangeable, Left & Right?

You can see the points through small hole in flywheel. The external coils are interchangeable.

OK. I used a point file to clean the points and I got sprk on both cylinders. I put it all back and I have nothing. This time, I believe it'e the ignition. When I got the sled, it had a screwdriver for a key. After I put it together, I noticed the screwdriver was gone so I just used another one. Turning the key, it feels :goofy". I removed the switch and cleaned it. Checked it with a continuity tester and I get no continuity between any terminals when the "key" is on. Can I just bypass the switch for now? I guess I'm asking how to "hotwire" it. Here are the wires going to the switch and the back of the ignition switch. Help please! Attachments:

I think the ignition contacts close when off to short out the coils. There should only be continuity on the lighting wires. It should start with the connector off but no lights.
Clean the contacts then when you think they're good, clean them more, and again. Contact cleaner and white business card for the final polish.

remove the plug off the switch and see if you now have spark. your sled will run without the connector on the switch but you will not have lights. if you have spark then its the switch, if not you have a wire issue.
