I just picked up a 77 range whip 400. Good condition except the hood has been painted a few times, looks like a red hood painted blue then badly back to red. It seems from what I've seen the 77 range whip should be red.
What color should a 77 range whip be? Were the blue hoods blue plastic or painted?

Range Whip could be had in blue in '76, according to the pic here: Range Whip
In '77 I've only ever seen red. Was that the one on C/list up in Highgate? I figured someone nabbed it.

This is my 77. In 76 they had both a red and blue hood. That was the only year the range whip had a offset headlight. e

So, how much of this wet, heavy white slop did you get on your side of the hill? I heard Rochester got 24+".....

I'm not going to measure because we shouldn't even have accumulating snow in November. Probably 12" in this last storm if I was to guess. I was cruising around on the sting last weekend. Need to brake trails again now.

I cleaned the carb and replaced diaphragms/gaskets and set float, replaced isolater ring, cleaned tank and new lines/filter, freed up secondary clutch and replaced cam shoes, new plugs and wires. New non-ethenol 40-1.
It ran amazingly for a hour and half, great acceleration, good top end and perfect idle. Next day it started easy but boggs and won't move. I've recleaned the carb and rechecked the spring/float ten times. Good spark, will idle all day but boggs with any throttle. Seems like it's flooding. If I pull the pulse line off the carb it will run good for two seconds before it runs out of fuel.
Any thoughts??

It's a walbro WF-24 on cuyuna 400.
I sprayed starter fluid around carb and PTO seal but doesn't seem to have any leaks.

Disconnect your primer and plug the lines and then try it.Also if you replaced the primer lines make sure it has a drop in the line to the intake below the tank base. Kerry

Right now the primer is not installed. I have a short piece of new line looped from one side to the other to close it off.
I'll make sure it has a drop when I hook it up. Hadn't heard of that before but makes sense.

Does anyone know the main jet size for that? I have no reason to think it's wrong but want to check.

I think I figured it out!! One of the new spark plugs was bad. I hadn't checked them because I assumed they were not the problem. I realized it was running on one cylinder and solved it.

Glad to hear it's still going. Wish I had gotten around to fixing that one. Still have a pile of Scorpion spares if you ever need anything...
