I finally found an old "Scorpion" before they were called that! It's the sled I learned to ride on in the mid 60's. I can't put it on the registry because of the Sears numbers. Does anyone know how I can do this? I'm guessing it's about a 1967 model. It has the JLO 292 engine. The Sears model number is 813 658000. S/n 2778. Here's a picture I just took of it. Thanks

The drive train seems ok, but I have the engine apart now. It was froze up from sitting so long. It doesn't look bad inside. I hope I can find parts for it!!

I've never done a complete tear down like this old timer is getting. I hope it turns out ok! I'm putting my 1971 Stinger suspension and track in it. Shoot...I may even put the 340 CCW in it also!

By the looks of that chain case, you could probably use a later style driven pulley too, that will make it run good.
The CCW is a good idea!

You're probably right about changing the whole chain case and clutch. How many can say they store their snowmobile on the shop wall??

Here's how the 1971 Stinger clutch and steering fit in the old 67. Had to make my own gas tank.

Who said you can't put a new style track in a 67 Trail-a-Sled?

The old Trail-a-sled is about to go outdoors for a run. The skis should be on by tomorrow.

It has been a fun project. I took the cowl outside to paint, and of course a wind gust came through! I'll have to sand and paint it again.
