Hello Scorpion Team!
I'm from Central New York just outside Syracuse.
My family had a new 1969 Scorpion with the small single sachs 297cc Mark II. It is long gone now.
I presently have:
1969 Mark III with Sachs 370 single and electric start.
1970 Mark III with Hirth 399cc twin with electric start.
Everytime I see one for sale, I get that "itch" to buy it! LOL

Welcome aboard everyone!

ddub, I remember I checked out your site on the Silver Scorpion restoration some time ago. That is a one of a kind special unit, right?
Feel free to post your story or whatever you want on this board somewhere!

Feel free to post your story or whatever you want on this board somewhere! While I still have never heard exact info on the sled, yes it is from what I can tell a one of a kind. The sled originally came as you see it. Notable differences include Silver Metalflake hood Chrome skis SA290 in a Mark I chassis Licensed as a 1970, even came with a 1970 owners manual. Here is a link to my website dealing with this sled. ddubstoys.com/scorpion_main_page.htmI'll do a separate post on the forum someday.

ddub what size track does your 72 Stinger I 440 have is it an 18 inch track or a 15 track.
I know that in 1971 the Stinger II(15 inch trackers) used engines from 290 singles up to 440 twins .
The available 72 Stinger I's according to the parts and repair had the narrow chassis(earlier Stinger II) for the single cyl model with a cheap 15 inch rubber track and the wide chassis(earlier Stinger III)for the twin cyl model with the 18 in Poly track.
My 72 Stinger I's rubber track only lasted one season then I put in a 15 Poly track(in 1973) and its still going strong.

StingerIII, My 72 is a 18 inch wide track with the Sachs 440 twin.
I haven't done a lot to it. It is in my shop as we speak. I got it this summer for free. I just hate that. On top of that it was delivered.
It only had spark on one cylinder. I cleaned the points and we have spark now and it fired on spray. But the chassis mounted gas tank has some serious goo action going and I have diesel in there just sitting to hopefully clean things up. I really don't want to open the tank up if I don't have to. We will see, it's been sitting about 2 months now but I have a few other projects that probably will keep it from seeing daylight until the snow is gone now.

New here as well. Thanks for starting this site! We sold 'em from 68 on up. We have around 100 scorpions here in Star Prairie wi. We've restored and sold a few but now mostly grass race. Roger "THE LEGEND" Larson who raced scorpions in the early 70's is still running strong for us. Along with Craig Matthys, Bailey Matthys, Ashley and Erin Peterson. A winter ride on a warm day is still looked forward to. Look us up at a race near you!!

Oh ya! we have many scorpion stories. But having my parents trying to make a living selling and servicing these sleds, the stories are not always what you would think. My dad does attend some races and i think for the most part likes it, but i think he still just dont have a good feeling over it all. You know, fun times but alot of heartache too. But the rest of us are into 'em up to our eyeballs! Right now our shop looks like a cuyuna research and development center.
