I am wondering if I need to resleeve to do an overbore on my Kohler K440-2. I am having no luck on finding out what kind of sleeves. Are they chrome or can I just bore them out and put in new pistons and rings. I did find OEM pistons and rings. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first rebuild.

If it has "cast iron" cylinders, you just bore them out to the new size. There are no sleeves in them. I am not sure what the tolerances are though. I would have to do some research.

Before you spend any money on it I would take it to the machine shop that you are going to have bore it and have them look at it for you, and get a quote on rebuilding it. I know nothing on Kohlers but i have heard these older ones can be hard to find parts for. If thats the case put a hirth in if you want a twin. Plenty of hirths out there. and parts for them. My guess is they can just be bored, but i know nothing about them just my opinion on it.

Thanks guys. I have found all the tolerances in a manual. Also found a place in MI called GPI that bought all of Kohlers 2 stroke division. I am talking to a guy locally about the job. Thank you all very much.

Got the engine all done and getting ready to to reinstall in the sled. This will be the first time it ran since 1984. It was my wifes grandfathers. I have to get it done by Jan 14th for the New Market Snomads vintage show so that she can ride it there. The Kohler did not have sleevesBTW.

Awesome! We have the same sled with the same motor in our family collection. I really like that motor, it's a smooth runner and its like a heater blowing right in your lap. Perfect for the ladies who are "fair weather riders" and don't like to get cold.

Got the K440-2Tengine done a couple years ago and runs great. I went .40 over with OEM pistons. The tillotson carb was a little bit of a pain in the ass though. Anybody know what clutch I can use as a replacement. The clutch just creeps alot
