i finally have some time to work on the 79 whip i am building for my wife. so i decided to tear the engine down to inspect and get parts on order. this is the upper pulley for the cooling belt, notice what is wrong.

i dont know how this pulley setup kept the engine cooled. after i discovered it i hooked up as boat tank to the engine and started it to see if the fan turned. it did turn once in a while but very slow. pistons and cylinders look fine and i had 132 psi in 1 cyl and 135 in the other. now i got to find a correct upper pulley assm along with a good belly pan.
