I am still tinkering with the 75 Super stinger (Rusty Racer). Being as the motor is tipped forward, I thought I would play with Walbros again. Tried 2 carbs, dicked around and wound up rebuilding both of them, and they worked ok for a trail sled, but them darn things always have a slow reaction to wide open.
I even tried to clutch around the flat spot. Had the engagement at 5100 and they were still slow to respond!
Finally gave in, went with a 38 Mikuni. Had to make an angled adapter, but it works good now. The 38 is borderline to big (390 main jet) but perfect for a racer.
Oh, by the way, this sled has been recently renamed ( Immaculate Contraption) These old Scorps are like a new puppy, takes a while to figure out the right name.

The 2016 Twin Ports Vintage Fest will be held Friday & Saturday, September 23rd & 24th, 2016, at Dusty Flat Speedway, just North of Duluth, MN. As far as I can tell via the world wide web, the Douglass grass drag is the same weekend. Douglas has a new guy (Tony) in charge of the races. He is the same guy that runs the ice drag race in Waseca, Mn. This guy is known for running the very best races around, very well organized, and lots of sleds show up for his events. I was hoping to go to both events, hope they can take care of the conflicting dates. I have never been to the Twin Ports race, but I am guessing it is a good one too. I can tell you right now Douglas is Sept 24 that will be SATURDAY this year. NOT a Sunday. I am the Race Director so you are hearing that from the horses A I mean mouth. Yes!!! Tony Kruger is running our race this year. I know Twin Ports is the same weekend, I think Wausau Wi is also this year? It is what I am hearing anyways. Which sucks, but the thing is we been around 22 years and always been the 3rd weekend of Sept. 3 weeks after Haydays. I think only one year we had a race the first weekend of Oct. I can't remember the reasoning we were that year. Think it had to do with the race promoter. Think that year we went with someone else other then Perry? Trust me I pulled a lot hair out over the deal. Trying to make everyone happy and not step on anyone else shoes as far as what weekend that would work. Either way I am Excited to have Tony do our race. Tony is a local guy vintage runs deep with him. I think it will be a refreshing thing for Douglas. I can't wait to help Tony and everyone else that races grow our sport. Not only the vintage but help push that classic era stuff. Lot of old race stuff in that era that is laying around that needs to be dusted off.

I took ol Rusty Racer to my 450' test track yesterday. I have a 150' test track in my back yard, which is great for testing the hole shot, but definitely a whole different deal when you let them run out 4 to 5 hundred feet.
I was thinking about gearing a little taller in order to mellow down the start (a little less spin), but the longer test track sucked the rpm's down a bit. Certainly can not gear up (not enough power). I will probably grind a little off the tips of the weights, or try a stiffer spring.
I actually have 2 Stock E class grass draggers, and when I can find help, we will run them against each other, and try some different shit
Its hard to find an extra driver that can read the tach and give a decent report! I am actually considering buying a play back tach, but which one is best for the vintage sleds?
