I remember waaaay back in high school science class learning about 2 types of energy...potential and kinetic.
I've recently discovered that there are 2 types of under hood dirt...potential and kinetic.
Potential dirt is that stuff just sitting there patiently waiting for, in my case, 37 years.
Kinetic dirt is 90% of all the dirt that magically somehow jumps to life and lands up all over your hands, forearms and that impossible to see spot behind the elbows and maaaybe 10% of the dirt accidently making it's way onto your cleaning rag.
Potential dirt and that big old rock just sitting there on top of the hill, I don't mind.
NOW, as for that kinetic dirt...it's kinda like that Indiana Jones rock rolling down that darned hill coming to get you time after time. You KNOW it's gonna come and just ruin your whole day!
Why couldn't we just leave that big old rock and dirt alone and be content with that?

But it is so worth it, nothing better than cleaning up an old sled.
I like to pull the motor, and take it to the car wash.

Very nice, the motor looks like it has been painted? I paint them once in a while, really cleans them up!
You should check out the thread concerning the Whip that Kube1 built. He painted the hood metal flake red like the old Stingers, and added a vintage decal. The sled is better then new!

I HAVE checked out his work!!! He is awesome...It will be humbling standing near him at some of our local Manitoba/Saskatchewan meets. I'll make sure not to park my sled within a block of his!
I took my clutch apart today. It's a very simple yet rugged design. It's in good enough shape to reinstall as is with maybe a little spit 'n grit 'n polish to match the shiny engine.

Looking good. I use a copper wire brush to remove all the crap, then wire wool with elbow grease to shine them up in fact i just finihed cleaning up a 297 Sachs tonight. Painting hoods is quite the job, im getting better, painting a black mark II hood here soon for my rat rod. never done black before. Keep up the good work there.

Thanks 75whip.
Good luck with the paint job and I hope it turns out.
If it doesn't, you can just pass it off as the "Rat Rod" look...you can't lose, right?
That's the way I chose to go with my Stratos. The hood is made of some kind of plastic and has terrible dips and valleys and wouldn't look good with shiny paint. I went with semi gloss hunter green. I shot it once and it came out too shiny. So I grabbed a can of clear coat, held it just above the surface but had the nozzle facing up. I sprayed up in the air and when the mist settled down it was semi dried and gave a pebbled effect. I repainted and got the right kind of finish I was looking for.

Good grief... yes please come to SK for a visit. Don't pump my tires too much. I'm already overinflated. And the superWHIP isn't that clean anymore. I do ride it quite a bit.
