I check this blog site every day, and it has been way to quiet here lately, time to start some shit. I am looking right at you OBJ, you are as usual up to some thing!
Ok, my latest sickness is tinkering with some Yamaha SRV's that came my way by chance. I mean, damit I have been trying to peel down, but so far this year I have acquired 6 sleds, and sold none. Although I did bone out a Phazer, just to get the ugly ass thing out of my yard.
What are you guys working on, or what are you going to work on? I still have that old Stinger II 4 bolt JLO ice dragger, thinking about upgrading it to a 6 bolt.
Either that, or I am going to modify the 75 Super Stinger to accept 1" picks, and run it on the ice.
Or,I have an old 71 Super Stinger that Stingerater gave me, and an original 440 free air Jlo,with twin pipes and carbs, thinking it would be fun to make a runner out that?
I have 2 SRV,s, one is bone stock and trail ready, the other is getting chopped up, and modified into an ice racer. I have 2 engines for it, they both will get torn down, so I can build a good one.
Lots of projects, problem is my job is getting in the way of my hobbies, gotta keep the wolf off my back.
Hang in there, think snow!!,(or ice)

i was going to not start any new sleds this winter, but because of the summer like weather we are having,62 degrees today, i ended up sand blasting and painting my 71 stinger chassis and my 70 markII chassis.then i tore both motors down to see what i needed to round up for parts.now i have 2 full blown restorations going on at the same time.

Oldscorpman - Great timing, now you can work on sleds over thanksgiving, that is exactly what I am going to be doing.
I am interested is those dam SRV's, they really make good power, something like 56hp@7250, and they are not that heavy. They are 540cc with a single carb, reed valve, but have a real super restrictive intake manifold with 2 90 degree bends.
The Phazer is twin carb, and the intakes bolt right up to an SRV engine, but the steering shaft has to be re-routed to miss the carbs, or you can use an angled home made carb adapter. I plan to modify the steering and run a couple 36 or 38's strait in. There is a SRV blog site, and those guys say the twin carb set up really brings them to life, oh, and of course you need an Aaen,or PSI pipe to make it all work. This will get ice picks, and be my lake racer/radar run sled.
We have a class for it at the ice drags, called 85 to 2002 stock, and mod stock, 600, 700, and 800, so it would have to run against Skidoo Formula III 600's which would be much heavier, but a lot more power! I am afraid the little Yamy would get spanked pretty bad, still a great little sleeper, and a fun sled to ride.
Oh ya, I thought about shoe horning the 540 into a Sting, but the motor mounts are tabs rather than traditional bottom motor mount bolts. Dammit though I like these motors even better than the Skidoo 503's.

Tell me about those Range Whips, are they similar to a TK, same pipe etc? What years did they make them.
I actually have 2 barn fresh Range Whips in the shed, thought about dragging one out. I am thinking both of mine have Para-Rail suspension, 15 x 118 tracks? Does that sound right?

Im not sure how simular they are to other scorpions, but i use to have a 76, i had a comet 101c off a john deer on it, and that thing was a rocket. I belive the track is somthing like 15x118 they are a smaller sled the motors are way up front in them, and they have a different looking pipe in them. I would pull one out get it going and try it out. I wish i could remember the spring and weights i used in my old one,. Oh i think they made them 76, 77, 78

Well it started raining/sleeting here this morning. We may get up to six or eight inches, it will probably end up being one inch. Its fun to hear about future projects. Im trying to figure out what to build myself. I have only got the Mark I right now. I was thinking of just building a "rat rod" and leave it faded and rusty, something I'm not used to doing. I have a nice rusty but straight 71 wedgie that I was going to convert to a Mark II and put a nice little Sachs single (my personal fave) in it. Nothing like having a little Sachs appeal! The hood is is complete and with an added bonus of moss growing on the side. Perfect for the theme I'm going with, a woods runner. I'm tired of worrying about fancy paint jobs when I'm out in the back 40 cutting up dead fall, to heat the Scorp shop of course! Maybe I post some pictures, if I ever figure out how to...
