just got back from a 22 mile ride, i went out after i got home from work on the 73 400 r.v. i went out alone so i took the trails that were near main roads. it sure was fun to let the 400 get some exercise, came up on some modern sleds and passed them as they were having a smoke break, you should have seen there faces.

Hey Rick, at least it beats staying at home watching videos of other guys out there snowmobiling! That 40 F really bites the big one though...here in Winterpeg, it's so cold that the snow stays once it falls. When I venture out alone out in the boonies , I prefer using my modern sled. If I ride one of my vintage, I'll ride ditches, groomed or not. That way, if my limited suspension decides to toss me or I have a breakdown, people from the road should be willing to help (notice how I blame my suspension for my getting tossed? ).
Are you able to ride from your house and right onto trails?
I have to trailer out 5 minutes to get out of the city or 20 minutes to get to the nearest trail.

yes rene i can leave right out my driveway and hit the trail about a 1/4 mile down the road. i have no problem taking my modern out on a 200 mile ride alone, but i don't feel to good riding my vintage alone to far from home. on the weekends i ride with other vintage guys around here and we will go much farther.

Rick, you've got a good setup there.
27 years ago I lived in a small hamlet and could snowmobile right from my deck. I was able to get on and off the sled without setting foot in the snow. My favourite memory is the time my boys rounded up all the kids from town with six toboggans tied to the back...you should have seen all of those smiling faces!

When I go to Minnesota to my folks for my yearly snowmobiling trip and visit from where I live in the south, I end up doing a lot of solo riding as my friends in the area are working or what not. I did a fifty mile loop a few years back and had a stuck needle in a Mikuni (my Tillotsons are actually less trouble) but most of the route was within a quarter mile of a road, well marked and groomed, and it was a sunny 30* day.
