I have a vintage run of approximately 50 miles on Sunday with temps of around 37 degrees f.
We all stand around and mingle for an hour or so before and after the ride, so I may have the hoods on for display and just remove them for the actual ride...it'll be interesting to see how many piston seizures and blown belts we'll witness.
I have added vents and a good fan intake duct which I ran before at 32 degrees without issues...should I run without the hood?...I think I should, what do you think?
I'll be running both machines...'80 Sting 440 and '87 Sratos 503.

Leave the hoods on. Do not pull a cutter, try to stay on hard packed snow. The lakes will be slushy, heavy, power robbers.
Some of the sleds will vapor lock, the guys will put snow on the heads and exhaust but it will not help. Put the snow on the carb and intake manifold.

Thanks weve.
They have now upped the temps to +39F !
We will give it a go and have a good time...what's a melted piston or two in the grand scheme of things?

Hi Kerry.
A buddy was coming with us tomorrow but cancelled after overheating today...he has a '92 440 liquid with heat exchangers under the running boards...no scratchers!
We should be okay as long as our right thumbs behave!

Well, we ended up removing our hoods. The up side to this is that we were able to give 'er on the river and were at the head of the pack ...our right thumbs just couldn't behave!
There were about 40 vintage and 10 modern-ish sleds...great turnout.
About a dozen or so sleds ran into trouble. Usually there are a few that fail due to poor maintenance but this year's heat was not so kind to a few more.

Cool! We did another 30 miles today but the trails were whooped so it was a slow ride. But hey any ride is a good ride and they both made it there and back! Kerry
