Ok I have had these damn pipes in my sachs pile for awhile now. First off is the grey pipe its new, and I have seen alot of them around, can anyone tell me what they where used with, and second the older used pipe has a tag on it saying sachs 340ss, was wondering what sled this may have came from? not sure what im going to do with them just wondering about them.

That silver one we have all seen before, I think it is part of a git kit for the 340 Sachs singles. They used a piece of flex pipe for the header section. I do not know if they made power, or just noise.
The rusty one looks like a Skidoo formula, and it gets plugged into a silencer can. That pipe looks like it might work on about anything, but it may need a longer and smaller stinger. I am thinking 7/8" x 15". Shove the stinger right up in there to the center of the mid section.
OBJ - It will not work on any of your stuff (ports are to high and wide)

Thanks for the info on the rusty pipe weverat. Honestly if I was going to pipe a sled, i would cough up the money and have one made. dont have any money into these things just a couple items i have had for years now. I still think its hard to beat the old Donaldson exhaust.

Yes, Donaldson with a short flex pipe header. Like 10 to 12 inches total, and they really run. It also helps to get rid of the F shaped exhaust manifold.
I am using a double inlet style Donaldson with flex pipes on an old 4 bolt JLO,bolted into a 71 wedge chassis. Damit, that thing runs good (possible grass dragger).
It has the old all steel par-rail with leaf springs, the H arm is locked up so it is rigid, but I am thinking if I ride it enough, it will break loose. Or maybe just break?
Any how, a rigid rear suspension is good for drag racing.

I have a 399 4 bolt sitting in my garage, and i got that converted 71 bubble nose, It did cross my mind a few time to put it in there and give it a try with that dual inlet Donaldson. anyway as for your suspension i guess as long as the wheels spin freely race it.

Yes, stick the 400 in there, they as good as a 440. I am in the process of proving that. I have a 79 Sting 400, of which qualifies for Stock E, which is mostly 440's.
The advantage I think I have is, in the Sting chassis, I can run the Sting exhaust, and Mikuni carb. The only thing beating me is the 75 Super Stinger 440, those have a good working exhaust too, and it is a tunnel mount.
I still think the 400 Sting should eventually out run it.
The 440 Sting runs in Stock D, OBJ dominates this class on the grass with those dam TK's. His sleds really run!
I think the best choice for a D Stock grass dragger would be a 440 Sting with para-rail, and about 60 chisel shaped race studs. What I like about the Sting is it is a bit shorter than the TK, and probably lighter.

Weve, Willow might be the first race to test your theories. We can bump our F stockers up or run them E stock 440 super stingers.

Ill be running the rangewhip 400 in E stock, well see what happens, but them rusty steel chassis original superstinger 440s are fast, im only a one man crew so its hard to have too many sleds, i ran h stock last year, but dont know what i will do for a 2nd sled. Was thinking about running the 400 sachs single, but i would really like to try jlo out in the black bubble nose. A 400 jlo in a steel chassis is f stock right?

Ya, that's right OBJ, I think 7.999 in E stock should win, if you cut a good light. I think the D Stockers run about 7.5 ?
Strangely enough we get almost the exact times on ice, I kind of always figured the ice would be faster ?

The 400's are fast too! Thats how i met Weve for the first time. Our 73 400 won F stock and E stock with different drivers at princeton one night and Weve and his crew chief came snooping around. He seemed nice so I told him everything I knew. That took about 2 seconds. They looked the sled over, scratched their heads a little, looked somemore, Watched it go through tech, layed down and looked under it, scratched their head somemore, asked if I would open the hood, looked that all over, asked somemore questions and then i realized he was the same guy i seen at Waconia with a 2nd carb mounted on his clutch cover! I thought if a guy can mount a carb on the clutch cover and make it run then he is so far ahead of me i'll never catch up!

Your a good man OBJ, can't wait to run the Scorps on grass. Hopefully Bubba and 75whip bring some stuff too.
Jimmy kind of took to my 75 Super Stinger, and had some success at Douglas last fall, so he no doubt will run it at Willow.
That leaves me with just a little 400 Sting. So far the Sting has not been able to beat the Super, give me time and a bit more tweaking, it is getting close.
Tom, the old 72 Stinger with the extra carb you speak of is my original grass dragger, converted to ice. But, we are thinking of adding twin carbs, and twin pipes, then run it on grass in Pro-Stock, Just for the hell of it, as we no longer run it on the ice. It is a 4 bolt JLO, the track has 112 real nice sharp 1" picks.
As you know, never question a 4 bolt, them dam things can make good power!

Ill have a couple, E stock for sure right now. Hopefully i can get at least a two man crew this year, its to much to do everything yourself. Obj looks like a nascar crew when they come rolling in, even got uniforms. Ill figure somthing out. Well see how my f stock or sachs 400 ideal workout, could bring the 72 stinger again this year if it comes down to it.cant belive we are talking aboutvthis shit already

We Scorpion guy's are mostly running the same classes, so we are all real busy trying to get our shit to the line at the same time.
On grass they typically let us drive them to the line, otherwise you really need help.
Jim normally comes to the races with me, and we help each other get to the line, but lately we have both been running E, and sometimes in the same heat. You know how finicky race sleds can be, sure as hell one of them will foul a plug or something, just in the heat of the battle.
At Okoboji last winter, the Free Air Bubble ran out of gas in the warm up area, we had to run for gas, get primed up and running quickly, as we were up next, dam that kind of shit makes it fun.

yes its a blast! The girls do a super job keeping track of which sled and which race. And they all have a little different engagement rpm and most of the time their right on it! The funny thing is they could'nt tell you a TK from a 72 stinger!!

The old pipe looks like what was in the 70 stingers with a 340 or 400. some other brands used the same pipe. the new one came in the 320 and 400 sachs kits. Anyway back in the day that is the only place I saw them. Someone once told me that sachs sent one of them to the states with every sachs engine. Kinda think that or something like that is true, because I came across a pile of them

Thanks for the info palo. The new pipe you see everywhere. makes me wonder if they produce any power or just a good way to piss everyone off if i took it on a drive into town.
