I have a cuyuna 440 in a whip that runs really well . I am rebulding another cuyuna 440 for a different sled. If I install the stator on the rebuild exactly as the good engine can I expect the timing to be exactly the same? Or will I still need to go through the complete timing process? I'm not trying to cut any corners, I just want this rebuild to run as good as the other.

Nope, it wont be close. you must set timing and set it perfect. In my opinion, this is where cuyuna gets a bad reputation. Timing is very critical and it does change with use. When these were brand new out of the box they still needed to be set. Some people get lucky and have a good running engine but many dont. Timing on these engines will make all the difference!

Tom, you'll appreciate this. . . .
A couple years ago I tore my original 79 Sting apart that I rode around 3000 very hard miles. That was 20 years ago when gas was worth a crap. I checked the timing before it came apart. PTO was .135 and Mag was .150. The points were that worn. But, it was and still is the cleanest, nicest Cuyuna I've ever seen inside. It also had a free flow head on the Mag side the whole time I rode it back then.
If you set the timing to that with the gas now-a-days, you'd have a hole in a piston in no time.
