Only had 600 miles. Cuts out and dies unexpectedly. Has points not cdi. Seems like a short somewhere but I dont know. It definatly isnt fuel related. Could it be ignition or something in the wiring harness? Can anyone help?

Do you have any spark when it dies ? Will it restart hot or does it have to cool off first ? Does it have full compression on both cylinders when it cuts out ?
Couple notable problem areas.
1) an external ignition coil will act like that when the sled gets hot, but run and start fine cold. You'd likely only see one cylinder drop in that case.
2) where the wires from the stator come through the case, you will sometime see broken or rubbed through wires. Maybe wiggle that around when it acts up and see if you get spark.
If you have good spark when it happens, check compression. That is what a broken or stuck ring can act like. Rings release cold and work. Stick again when they get hot.

scorp11, it will start up again shortly after it dies. its not due to heat. and it doesnt seem to run on only one when it dies it just kills like the kill switch was hit. maybe I should disconnect every thing from the harness and run to see if it still dies? I hope its just something easy. thanks for the response. Chris

Yep, chris just start it and disconnect main harness at engine. Then you'll know quick if its on engine side or sled side.
