Well I hesitated on the 71 superstinger OBJ just bought because I had just picked up my new project. Its a 70 Stinger with the Sachs single 400 kit and stinger pipe. I know about the sled itself, what can you guys tell me about the 400? It has the scorpion stinger pipe, not the sachs hotdog pipe. Does that make a difference? What fuel will this bad boy take? How about clutching, should I powerthrust I or duster it? Looks like someone turned down the head a bit. I'm just happy to A. finally get a 70 stinger and B. Get a 400 kit sled.

So what does the pipe look like? Is it the segmented, welded git kit pipe? You don't see those often. Most of the 400s and 340s I have seen with a pipe have the hot dog looking pipe.
I have heard the 400 was offered as a kit to top the 368 engines. I have seen enough Stingers with the SA400 and stinger pipe to be convince they were factory that way.
I use regular gas/oil mix in mine and clutching is stock. It will thump right along. Makes a Mark III with 368 look sick. Congrats on a nice find!

Thanks for the info stingerater!! This sled has the welded, segmented pipe. Even has the little chunk of round bar welded on to hose clamp it to the fill tube. The pipe wraps around the chaincase and exits via a welded in tube for the stinger to slide through. The head pipe is flex pipe. The sled also has the stub on the right side for a donaldson muffler. I asked about clutching because I only have the inner sheave. The outer part was not with the sled. I could do original clutching if I can find new rollers for one of my spares.

After doing some more searching around, looks like my sled has a Git Kit. I have to fix a couple small holes in the pipe, but it will cackle again!!!

I haven't seen many Git Kit equipped sleds. You really found a neat sled. Can you post a picture of the pipe in the sled? I have the pipe, just wondered exactly how it was installed. Think I got a good idea from your description though.
By the way, what was the 71' Super Stinger that OBJ just bought?

I will see about getting a pic. I'm not too good in that dept.
the 71 super is at the top of the "for sale" section. I believe it was a rough, 15" track, had a hirth twin in it. All the superstinger parts except seat were with it.
