On spring order sleds there were certain options available such as offset spindles shorter seat etc.How rare are these to find I am particularly interested in the spindle kit. what year did they start the snowcheck program?

I don't know for sure, but you see the "accessories" options show up in the parts book in 77. I know in 78 and 79, you could pre-order them certain ways. Scorpion built all kinds of "custom" type stuff but I don't know when the official "snocheck" started. For those who don't know, that is what the X on a TKX designates. It was custom ordered. As far as the spindles. . . 77,78 Range Whip / Range Whip Stings had them and it was an option on the 79 TK's. Be aware, you need a number of things to put the spindle kits on. You need to change all this for each side. The "wave washers" you need are not shown in the pic. Spindles are different left and right, rest is the same left and right.

The offset spindles have a bigger OD for strength. That is why the bushings and washers are different too. So the arm has bigger ID to fit the splines on the spindle.

I know the bushings that my offsets came out of are shot, how hard is it to find new ones?

How rare are they that is to say what percentage of the sleds do you think came with these offset spindles and is there one part number for all of these or are the tkx's one all their own? Were there snow check options once production shifted to thief river falls?

tkjoe - I think I have a set of NOS bushings for these. If not, I'll find some for you.
speedbuf - as far as I know, all Range Whip / Range Whip Stings had them. That is going by the parts book.
As for the TK's, I think the % that had them were pretty low. I see very few with them. Not sure on the 1980 models and snocheck.
One downside to the offset spindles, is they do increase steering effort a fair amount.

I have some of these spindles NOS and since I don't have a lot of parts, either not rare, or I am darn lucky! But with that said, Kevin, I didn't think the Range whips/stings were all that common either? At least I don't see a lot of them. At least none of them are hiding in my barn! LOL

LOL You might want to trade them spindles with someone who has parts you want The 77-78 RW and RWS were a fairly common sled. You see quite a few around here. Not "whip" or TK common, but they still must have sold quite a few. Need to get people out updating the registry and we might have a better idea based on serial numbers :-)
