Bought this sweet piece of history a few weeks back. The engine had low compression one side. Plus mud & water in the fuel lines. So first step is rebuild the engine. First question. Will the Winderosa complete gasket set 711063C for the '81 El Tigre 6000 l/c ...fit this engine? The bore size on the Sidewinder is 68mm vs. 70mm for the El Tigre. That's why I ask. Everything else appears interchangeable. Or, what is the gasket set number from Wiseco? Attachments:

2nd question. I'm not a fiberglass guy or painter ...this thing needs some work.
Looking for recommendations on someone in Green Bay, WI or Northeast Wisconsin that does fiberglass paint and repair and paint on the tunnel and bellypan?
Thanks everyone. Greg

Looks like a shark! I'm guessing the winderosa set will work. But I don't know for sure. I'll ask my arctic buddy. The Scorp motor must have been a little de tuned from the cat? How much different are they? How many CC.s? As far as the body work, paint it yourself! It would be a challenge! I've yet to ride a sidewinder. I have ridden a few eltigres. Its on my bucket list. I remember seeing the adds in snowgoer when I was a little kid and thought that was the ultimate machine

The 440 and the 500 engines take different gasket sets. The earlier Arctic 6000s with the 440 are the same .

It's a 440 liquid cooled. Motor is made by Suzuki. Bore size on this is a hair smaller. the '81 El Tigre 6000 l/c has a 70mm bore. Sidewinder only has a 68mm bore. I'm thinking the gasket set for the '81 El Tigre should work. Or I have to mix & match with the 5000.
I thought CCW stood for Canadian Curtis Wright??

The gasket set for a 440 and 500 should be different I believe. (I suspect the head gaskets, but maybe more) 1979 El Tigre 440 set www.mfgsupply.com/711063a.html1981 El Tigre 500 set www.mfgsupply.com/711063c.htmlYou can verify that the 1979 eltigre 6000 lc 440 takes the same gaskets as a sidewinder 440, but that is what I suspect you need. Lots of mis-information out there on motors and where they were built. CCW does stand Canadian Curtis Wright, but as pararailer said they were built in Japan. Later the motors were identified as kioritz in John Deere sleds. Similarly Xenoah (used by Chaparral and Rupp) were really Fuji motors. Early Kohlers were made in Switzerland. Is there a source for Sidewinder CDi boxs? I'm told they have an extra wire than the elTigre version.
Thanks, Roger

Has anyone figured out for sure if the sidewinder and el tigre cdi boxes are different? I need a cdi too. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone figured out for sure if the sidewinder and el tigre cdi boxes are different? I need a cdi too. Any info would be greatly appreciated. There are two different cdi's. Visually they look similar but the difference is the plugs. One has a three-prong plug with two females and one male (sounds like quite the party) and the other has two male prongs and one female. That and one is readily available via aftermarket, the other is a little hard to find but they are out there.

I need a CDI also. As I understand it they are NOT the same as the Cat CDI's. My CDI has a 1-3 prong plug (input from primary coil), 1-2 prong plug (output to secondary coil) and 2 single wires (1-red w/black & 1-black). Does anyone have an electrical drawing of the ignition circuit? Also looking for a service manual.

I don't own a Sidewinder (wish I did) But wouldn't it be easier to swap in the ignition from a liquid El Tigre and do away with the "special" cdi? Probably only need the ignition coil and the CDI. Reuse the SW stator plate and flywheel. I believe they have the same controls/kill switches. I got rid of the nipp on my 80 Sting and I now have spark and can get a CDI or coil anywhere.

I installed a cdi on mine from a 1978 el tigre 6000 but the ignition and kill switch are backwards .It runs ok but I have to change it over from normally closed to normally open to run the ignition .I suspect a 1984 pantera might have the correct cdi but I haven't found one yet
