I guess it's my turn for a timing question. This is the first time I've attempted to time a Cuyuna. I've read to hold the advance with your finger to fully advance. I do that but can't turn stator far enough to get in spec. I've put a bit in the hole to hold the advance but it doesn't hold it all the way against the inside of flywheel. I can get within spec with a bit in the hole. I've also noticed that if my bit is not in there holding the advance at exactly the same position it makes a big difference. So which is correct; holding it open with finger until it won't move any farther or with a drill bit or timing tool in the hole? This is for a 77 Sting.

I tried but can only get down to about .130 btdc. I'll check when I try again tonight. Gap was .15. Stator was moved fully clockwise.

Maybe the points have been replaced, and are not exactly the same, you know how this aftermarket stuff is always a bit wrong.
I have ground out and elongated the slots in the stator plate a time or two. Whatever it takes to get the timing right.
Does this one have angle plug heads, or the Hemi head?

Alright, turns out my Dial indicator was goofy. I got my Dial working good enough and I set timing to .105 on mag side and .102 on PTO while holding advance all the way. Started up and ran great. No backfire and started easy twice more. The plan is lake ride Saturday. Thanks weverat.
