I am in the process of getting this machine back on the snow. I am not going to do a complete restoration yet although I will down the road. My dad purchased the machine when it was 1 yrs old. The serial number is on the skid is S 032 1034 and the Sachs is 6014120. Not sure what Mark this machine is. It does have the grill on the front of the hood. Looks like the machine in this pic. Does anyone have specifications on what to adjust the carb jets too? Also ever since I can remember when the engine is running the clutch is engaged. Is there an adjustment on the clutch? It seems to close way too easily. Also does anyone have a procedure to remove the rear skid assembly? I just want to make sure all the bearings/bushings are good. I'm looking forward to cruising this March on it. Thanks in advance.

Also the engine plate reads 1969 and it is the original motor. I guess the model could be a 1970?

A hinged hood (grill on front is for hinges I think) indicates a 1970 or 1971.
If your hood is red sparkles like the one in the photo, I think that makes it a Stinger instead of a MARK series.
Can you adjust your idle any lower without stalling so the clutch does not engage prematurely?
Also, make sure your belt is the correct length.
Welcome to the site and thanks for sharing the cool story!

Thanks for the replies. This machine has been stored under our cottage for a long while. Every year I would fog it to inhibit any rust etc. I put new fuel lines on it new plug and belt. The plug is a NGK AB-8 and the belt is a Dayco HP 3001. I will attempt to lower idle and see if I can keep it running. It is creating a lot of exhaust splatter so it is running rich. I will adjust the carb and possibly remove and clean. I'm in Winnipeg, MB Canada. Does anyone know where parts can be found. Can be in the US as I have friend I can ship part too. I need a windshield. Again thanks for all the replies.

JC, take a look in our classifieds section for the windshield. Post a wanted ad there for other things you might be looking for. There a some established Scorpion parts suppliers out there. I would love for them to advertise in our classified section but they are generally not posted there either at all or in a way that you can easily find them.

What gas/oil mix ratio are you running? 20:1, 32:1, 40:1 ?
I'm thinking about your exhaust splatter comment. I'm not a big fan of advising people to run less oil in their gas but that might have something to do with what you are seeing.

I'm running closer to 40:1 on this tank of fuel. I'm getting a lot of spatter in the engine compartment. I tightened up the exhaust clamps although still happening. I will figure it out. As for the windshield I will post a wanted ad. I have printed out post threads regarding my clutch. Thanks for all the input.

did you take your carb apart to check the needle and seat? If the needle has some dirt or debree stuck open it could run rich. if you do, blow every thing out with carb cleaner and air.
Those old clutches have rollers in them and often develop flat spots on them. Once they do they are pretty much junk. Just find a better type clutch from a 72 or newer. You can try to loosen you engine and move it together a little so the sled dont creep forward, or else you have to just live with it.

the best way to remove and check the driveline is to strip it down so you can put it upside down on saw horses. You may need to replace a bunch of rusty nuts and bolts If you take it this far let us know and we can walk you through it. there are tricks for taking bearings apart. Once you get done going through this stuff you will realize its not that hard and youll be glad you did when you are 10 miles down the trail!

I have since removed motor and started removing the skid. Any tricks on removing the drive shaft? I do have the upper sprocket removed (kind of looks stripped - I will run a tap & die to clean it up) although the bottom sprocket slides out but not off the shaft, not sure why. The seat needs to be recovered although the foam is in decent shape. I am just going to recover the seat by myself. Bought some material. I have decided to get the frame sandblasted and repainted. I have a buddy who will do it relatively cheap. I will need to clean up the chrome and deciding whether or not to just paint the ski's black. I will take you up on available advice as I go through this unit. Once the frame is sent off I will clean carb and recover seat so I am ready to re-assemble. Really appreciate the help. I originally wanted to ride this month although going to take my time and redo everything right and enjoy the refurbish.

you should get a seat cover from jack palokangas. there not to expensive, and you got a nice sled there. it'll look way better. I got one for the 70 im doing now and it looks great. than there's a guy in Brainerd named matt that remakes the 70 windshields. he just had an ad on vintage sleds. they fit pretty good. I got one at the homecoming from him. good luck with your build! keep them old scorps running!!
