what year did they come out with the whip?? im looking at one and they guy is telling me its a 73 340?

1975 was the first whip. Blue Metal flake with fiberglass hood and pan.

you will of course find '74 on the manufacture date, since they were made for the '75 snow season, which started in the fall of '74
i have seen people selling machines based on that date on various for sale sites and papers (of all brands)

Good point. Easy way on the scorps to tell the year is to look at the serial number. First digit indicates the year. 5=1975, 6=1976 etc.

personally i prefer the fiberglass ones, you have to treat the plastic ones like they were made of glass

LOL. . The plastic ones aren't "that" bad. . . and you can fix them up as long as you catch them while all the pieces are still there But, Between a 75 and a 76, yes I prefer the 75. Go later than that and you start to get some of the other benefits of the newer style. Wider front end, tapered tunnel, etc. If you have any questions post them up, there are plenty of people here who can help you.

I have another qustion on a diffrent sled. I have a 73 super stinger 400rv, I was told it had a ccw398cc in it, but i was looking in a book today and i says it has a ccw436cc any ideas??

If you were looking in the Intertek manual its a misprint. The correct engine for the 400RV was the reed valve CCW KEC400/21.

going to look at that whip this weekend anything to look for when checking it out also found a 71 stinger iii 400 just 30 min away with a ccw 400 what to look for looking at that one???
