Bought my first scorpion last weekend.. don't have any experience with scorpions but it was a good deal and in decent shape. It is a 1975 Whip 400. The rear idler wheel is completely blown out (Excuse my crappy pictures) Anyway, the rear axle bolts were already removed so I dropped the rear suspension And than I unscrewed the rear tensioners. The axle won't just slide out like any other sled, the rear suspension is connected to the outside casing. Is there anyway to remove the rear idlers without taking the whole tensioner bracket off the skid?

The plate on the outside should come off and then you can take the wheel off. Problem is many times they are rusted tight on on shaft or the other.
Soak both sides with some good penetrating oil and heat if needed. It may take time, but normally they will come apart.
The pivot in the H-Shaped section at the back likes to rust tight too. That one is tougher to get apart. If yours is not rusted or you get it apart make sure you put grease or anti-seize in there.

Thanks scorp! I will attempt that this week. On top of this in the other whip vintagesleds.com/bs/index.php/topic,80118.0.html The plate on the outside should come off and then you can take the wheel off. I replied to your post there. Most likely got run lean. Common with the Cuyuna's.

those swing arm plates are cross bolted to the shaft. once you get the bolt out, (some are pinned) they are supposed to pull apart. I dont want to scare you but I had one that never did come apart. I soaked it for days, then torched it, pryed it, beat on it, and threw it in the scrap pile because it just wouldnt come apart. I had to replace pretty much the entire assembly. It is possible to bend those swing arms out and finagle it off the track. then it is much easier when you can put it in a vise.
