And of course the bogie wheel Assemblies. The rear idler wheels of course are shot. And took a combo of air tools and a torch to get apart. Im going to redo it so I can use some modern idler wheels I can get from dennis kirk. I may add a third wheel in the middle like I did on my whip, nothing here the lathe cant fix.

And the chassis as of today, after taking my cheap sand blasting gun to it. Slow but it works, still got plenty for sanding to do.

I used to sand blast them all the way but now I don't think its really necessary. The original paint is about the best coating that will ever go on there so I just clean em up as good as I can without removing all the original paint. I have a bogey 72 like that. Dont think it was a 340ss tho. I turned the tank into a steel tank by welding off the opening and sealed it all up. Its nice to be able to run the exhaust straight foward that way. Its great to see someone wrenching on scorps this time of year. Good work Eric.

Hey 75whip, I am a strictly a "onelunger" guy. You just bought a great sled in the single cylinder world. Don't let the old bogie suspension scare you.... they are a lot lighter that the pararail. I like the black wheels. You don't see those to often anymore. If you have questions about your motor let me know. Happy restoring!!!

Yea im not going to blast it anymore than this The blaster is nice and makes cleaning it up fast, any loose paint grease dirt just blows it right away. Thats a good ideal with welding the up the opening and making a in frame gas tank. Im glad i got all the exhaust with this sled so i dont have to rig up things or run around looking for parts.

Thanks stinger4me, yea I got lucky with this chassis and the Sachs 340s, About time I ran into something. Oh no im not scared of the bogies, i don't think I will be reusing the plastic bogies they are pretty beat up, probably going to get some nos. I do have a question for the motor what do you think of the pistons that Bob in big lake sells. Bore the 340ss up to 79mm stock 368 bore and using the piston hes selling on vintage sleds right now. I met him earlier this past winter and he seems pretty knowledgeable with these motors. They run these at long lake, and he clams they run along with the 340c. Not sure if im going to put the stock running motor in it or play around with the other one, It needs a piston and needs to be bored anyway. I know you like or 368 iron and I dont blame you. you can find parts for them without taking out a second mortgage on your house, and they got plenty of power too.

I have in the past bored a 340ss cylinder out to a 370 before and felt it hindered the performance more than helped. It ran OK but it just fell flat on its face. I was using a true 370 piston though. Maybe a piston with a top "L" ring would help the performance more. Just remember that if you bore to a 370 you will need a 370 head or have your 340ss head machined. If it were me I would just bore it to the next size. Then if you need to you can bore it a couple more times after that. I truly think you will be very satisfied with a first over bore. Also just so you know, a 340ss has a longer stroke than a 340c and they seem to have longer legs...meaning they are faster in a long run. I was looking at your motor, It could use some TLC. If you need any help I would be willing. I love restoring Sachs singles! My all time favorite motor is a 320. One more thing, don't throw out you plastic bogies.

Stinger4me I talked to the guy today. Pistons had no L ring. Calmed only the crome bore had them. I thought all ss had the L ring to keep the ring from fluttering around at 6500rpm. also said they had a special dome turned into them by Winsco? Said Bill Bune enterprises and him came up with them. I know Bill Bune has a very good reputation so If i went this way I would call them first, and get his input, but anyway I hate the ideal of boring a rare 340ss to that and wasting a cyilinder. Yea I think its best to bore .5mm and be able to do it again. Oh yea plus the guy races too. In my opinon Clutching is the most important thing in these. And you can port too if you want too. Dont worry about the plastic bogies got no plains to throw them out, wish I had all 15, I would put new bearings in them fix them and reuse them.

Yes all the true 340ss had a top "L" ring. There are some chrome bore kits that do have two box rings. I think they were conversion kits to make a standard iron 340 into a aluminum chrome bore. I have in the past built a 340c for a friend and he used the new style wiseco, they are a lot lighter than the original. Yes there are a lot of options to think about. I only rebuild stock motors for the One lunger nothing radical or extravagant. In that race the most important thing is to finish, and a stock motor is still quite fast. I'm not sure what type of racing your going to be doing but you have time to think about it anyways.

Nope it was all done by aerosol spray. Its very pricey at $25 a can though, and I needed 3 cans to do it. A body guy i know told me about it, but not to many places sell it, but you can order it online also. I'm spraying the suspension parts with this epoxy paint I found. it looks like its time to reassemble finally.

Im going to go check out the sled bone yard in hinckley tomorrow and see if he has some. Maybe jack has some too?
