That is one of the most modified Scorpions I've seen. I love the 440 Sachs! They were fast when turning a 15 inch track. I wonder why it was put on a wide track? Enjoy it!

Thanks for letting me know. I have a 71 Stinger myself, but have always wanted a round nose 70 like I used to race.

I have a 71 stinger 2 but the 1st stingers are hard to find I just found a 71 Stinger that looks about the same condition as yours. It has a twin CCW engine, but I haven't found the engine plate to see what size it is.

This is one I call Free air Bubble, I call it a 1969 Bandido, 1 of 1 ever made factory prototype racer! It is actually a 71 wedge chassis converted to a Bubble, with a old chopped up JLO I had it at a show and labeled it 69 Bandido, nobody questioned me ? Wow...that one is different. I like it!

It seams like we have had this debate before, and concluded that those numbers do not give a good clue. About all you can do is look at old manuals and sales brochures to see what they made or advertised in certain years. All my old stuff, I get close, and then just call it whatever I like. Usually if appears to be a 1970 or 71, I call it a 69. Leave it up to the next guy to prove you wrong. You have a cool sled there, what motor, can you post more pics. Thanks for responding! I can't find information on this sled at all. Only a few picture show up on a Google search or this forum. I'm hoping to take some fresh picture this week... if we ever see the sun! It snowed yesterday, so I'll be riding it today. It has the big 634 Hirth engine with perfect compression.

I'm getting more confused about my Mark IV! The data plate starts with 1 meaning it could be a 1971? The bullet nose red metal flake cowl seems to indicate a 1970. When I try to register it on this site, they will only allow it as a 1969 model. Anyone have any ideas?

I wet sanded the clear coat on my 70 Scorpion, and gave it a shot of clear coat. It worked great, and will look even better outside in the sun.

Me too, I'm interested also. Let us know. 😊 I ran it round quite a bit today. It will bust over any snowbank I could find! I stepped off and went up to my knees, but it sat on top like the snow was ice. I'm impressed!

I grew up riding Scorpion snowmobiles. Today was my first ever ride on one of the first "mountain machines" ever made! Scorpion only custom built a few for companies that had to work in deep snow. I was very impressed just now. We still have a lot of snow in our yard, but it busted up and over anything I pointed it at. I'm glad it has the biggest engine made...that helps a lot! This wide track is way more stable than our narrow track machines were. I got off to take a picture and went up to my knees in snow, but it was sitting right on top. The lights even worked! The new windshield will be on by tonight. Now to clean it up and get the cowl painted!

Another very odd thing about this track is that it refuses to run centered in the tunnel. I've set the rear idlers at both extremes, but the track continues to rub lightly on the right rear side. the boggy wheels are tracking straight. Any hints for me?

This is the first Mark IV I've ever had, so the track tension has me puzzled. It has a new Gates 23.5 inch wide track. Do I tension it to droop 1 inch below the center boggy wheels like the narrow track machines? Gary

I tried to register my Mark IV today, but the site won't accept my user name or password. Have there been any problems lately? Gary

I doubt this big beast would do very good as a racer. I'm curious how it does in powder tomorrow.

I gave up on finding a 1970 Stinger like I used to race. Tomorrow I'm buying a 1970 red metal flake Mark IV with a 634 Hirth, and the 23.5 inch Poly track. It's a strange strange looking beast! It's the first one I've ever seen! I wish someone would trade me for a 70 Stinger. Gary

I've been searching the internet for two years for a red 70 Stinger. Why do they never come up for sale? I want it for a nostalgia build. Will consider any condition. I might even drive all the way to Minnesota for one!!!! Gary

I checked the homecoming shows section, and the events calendar, and could find nothing about this years homecoming. Google search said there will be one one Feb. 2nd. Shouldn't this be listed on this site? I still can't find any pictures from last years homecoming. (I'm still cold from that one!!!) You Minnesotans seemed happy enough though!
