i was on a local clubs vintage ride and put on 60 miles when the sled stated to lose power. pulled over and raised the hood to see parts of the cooling fan belt and the cooling fan upper pulley laying by the carb. never heard anything blow or smelled a burning belt. parts off the pulley tore the engine down today, i was suprised to see only the mag side piston damaged. there is aluminum all over the inside of the crankcase. going to have to clean this one up real good.

i had this problem back in the early seventys when these sleds were new. the scorpion dealer increased the pre load on the spring by 1/3 a turn on the secondary, it seemed to help back then.

hey cross cut, rick from west bend wi. there was a guy at st germain who had a 73 440 tk with elec start, his battery was down on the right side[ if your sitting on the sled] where the bearing plate is bolted to the chassis. the battery box looked like one that most garden tractors use today. if it was not factory some one did a good job at making it look like it. sorry no pictures of it.

found out one of the guys i work with use to have some scorpions when he was a kid in the early 70's. he said that they has 2 mark IIs that instead if a rear cargo/tool box back rest it was a extra fuel tank. does anyone have one of these or do you remember seeing this set-up. he said that they came from the dealer that way. he called his dad at lunch break and his dad said the sleds were the dealers demo's and they bought them at the end of winter.

welcome on board to the site. go to ebay and put in ccw 400 piston and about 30 results will come up. you need too mesure your piston pin to see if you have the 16mm or 18mm. one of the guys on ebay is trout creek sales, i have bought many engine parts and gaskets from him.
