admin. that broucher you have the picture of is the super stingers. you would have to look up the stingers to get a picture of that hood. the 74 stingers were made to use up all the left over 73 parts they had.

as someone who has painted 4 metal flake hoods i am impressed by yours. i guess i have to come up with a different hood decal for my 79 whip, i was thinking along the lines of a round decal just like you did. i even dropped off a 71 mark II round hood label at the sign shoppe that does my decals to give her an idea of what i was looking for.

it started as a 72 stinger II that i bought for the 400 reed valve engine. under the seat was rotted away so i cut it up to make a gas hauler for the longer vintage rides we go on.

my best friends parents were buying 2 new 73 superstingers in october of 1972 and offered me their 1970 mark II for $250.00 . their son, my best friend was getting his dads 1970 stinger with a 399 hirth in it and i had first chance on the mark II. i had about $200.00 dollars saved up from my paper route as i was 13 at the time and had to beg my dad for a fifty dollar loan for the rest. my dad said he would pay the $50.00 but that my 2 younger brothers would get to ride the sled 1 day a week . i said yes of course because all i could think of was having my own sled, even if it was a 75% ownership. we drove the heck out of the sled for 2 winters. i was working after school and weekends at a full service gas station by now and had saved up about $700.00 dollars so i let my 2 brothers have the mark II and bought my first new sled, a left over 1974 arctic el'tigre 295 for $695.00 and drove cats from then to now. i got back into scorpion sleds about 5 years ago when by pure dumb luck i came across the 70 mark II that i had originally bought in 1972 for $250.00 at the house of a kid that came to work by us. his dad had traded my brother a motor cyle for the sled and after tearing the track up parked it in his barn. when i went to look at it there was a registraton card with my brothers name on it in the rear seat trunk. i now have 5 scorpions and put on over 800 miles last year on vintage rides . it cost me 5 years ago $250.00 to buy my sled back.

I'm working in a 79 whip 440 and during the tear down i noticed a few things that don't make sense. first one is why is the air for the cooling fan being sucked from dash area by your knees? i would think you would have much colder air coming from the front of the hood. second is why is there no grease zirts for the front spindles where they go thru the chassis. my spindles have rust all over them. the 3rd thing, has any one lowered the mounting holes for the rear suspension arm on the chassis to raise the back up a little and increase the ski pressure? the last thing is that since this will be my 60 year old wife's vintage ride, has any one put heated grips on one or is there not enough watts to do this.
thanks rick

hey tom i know you rebuild these blind folded after every race, just wondering what gaskets and seals you recomend. engine has only 870 miles on it, 138 psi on both cylinders, leak test was good. figure i will do a reseal and timing set up and it should be ready.
thanks rick

i am not to worried about the fix since i don't even try to pull the suspensions apart anymore. i always make new axle shafts and spacers, so i just sawzall every thing apart.
