I am thinking you have the walbro WF carb ? either way it sounds like the idle mixture is lean. I ofton run the idle mixture a tad rich, seems to help the transition from idle to mid range with out hesitation.
I adjust the high speed screw while running on the snow, full throttle. I know the carb is not in your lap, but you can open the hood and turn it in 1/4 turn at a time untill the boggle goes away. Be carefull, to lean will burn a pee stone within a few hundred feet !
Sometimes, I try to find the too rich setting, where it boggles, smokes, looses power, feels like the choke is on etc. and then turn the screw in 1/4 or so from there.
With practice you will make tiny adjustments for each day. or as the weather changes.
With my tunnel mounted engines, I will lean er down a touch in the woods, and crank it open when we hit the lake, I can,t help myself, I am cranking on the screw all the time, I love the old Waldos, and Tillys are ok too!

My tach has a plug with just 3 wires. Yellow from light switch to instrument light, yellow w/ black stripe from engine before the light swich (always hot) to the tach, and a brown for ground. I do not know what your black and white wires are for ?

Another 72 stinger III wide track 400 CCW was re-borne today. Picked one up at Douglas swap meet. The sled was clean, complete with all covers and guards, but the engine was stuck. Any how it appears to have never been apart, and everything is real stock looking and untouched. The only thing is the clutch has 3 springs. Did Scorpion ever run just 3 springs ?

Thanx Stinger, I have noticed those drivers in the parts books, and often wondered if they fit our sled. They must be drilled to fit our roll pins to ? I will order a set, and check it out.

Does anybody know where I can get the Scorp drive sprockets for the 1972 Stingers (8 tooth, 2.52, 1" round shaft).
I am looking for the reproduction black colored sprockets, not the old stock white ones, pre cracked, and ready to break.
About 2 years ago I got some nice ones from Fowler, but no longer in stock.
How about Certified, do they have the good ones ?
Thank You

I like to run 4" of carbide on my skis, but of course the Scorpions are no longer listed in the Parts unlimited, Marshal, or Fowler books.
In the past I used whatever I could find at the swap meet, cut, grind, weld to fit. I am old and lazy now, and just want a part number.
I need a set to fit the 1972 stinger. I am thinking there has to be something close to fitting, like an old cat or something. I noticed Parts Unlimited, and Fowler do list carbides for the 80, 81 TK's, but I am not sure if they are long enough.
Looking for a short cut
Thank You

1972 stinger II, converted to para rail, works good on ice or grass, I also did a 71 wedge chassis, and converted the wedge to a bubble nose. Is all I did was trim the wings off the front of the belly pan, and added the bubble nose bumper. You do have to butcher up the chain case to make it work, I mean you have to be totally committed to making it a racer. Cut, weld, grind, and have no mercy for the original sled.

Normaly, I remove the points and sand them with 400 grit, and then 600, spray with brake clean, and finaly slide a clean white busines card, dampened with brake clean between the points, and snap them a few times. this is a good time to check contact with a voltmeter or a buzzer. Slide the points set off the shaft, clean and add a touch of grease.
Ok, points are ready to go, now if you want really good spark, replace the condensors. Hope this helps.
Oh ya, I have had some motors with really rusted contacts, and a took a lot of sanding, but normally just a few strokes. Be sure to check them with a meter.

Looking for a shock to fit a 1980 Sting 440 with the Para slide II, the shock is 13 1/2" long. Has 4 1/2" travel, uses a real heavy spring, I have the spring, but my shock is broken. It appears to be typical to scorpion only, unless somebody has found a replacement to retrofit with out to much modification.
Thank You

This is my first post ever on Scorp talk, mostly I just browse, rarely post. Any how, this thread was started a year ago, and it is a great idea, we should be able to come up with a 100 questions no problem.
Did Scorpion offer training for the mechanics ?
How long did it take to change a track ?
Did you replace a lot of drive shafts ?
Did you have to pay for the sleds up front, or as they were sold ?
How long did it take to get parts ?
