When you put studs in, just be ware that the studs will destroy the underside of your tunnel. We would always rivet "tunnel protectors" which were slides from a newer sled. If you don't do that, you will end up with HUGE holes in your tunnel. Also it would be a good idea to put a couple of extra idler wheels in the back. With all those studs, it puts a tremendous amount of torque on the track causing it to drift side to side which then shreds your track. We would use black plastic ones they are much lighter and have bigger bearings. We would run one set of idlers in their normal position and the second set inside snug against the lugs, so the track was less likely to drift. I put a pair of hyfax under my tunnel, I have seen what studs can do to a old sled tunnel. I was worried about using a original 70 stinger track, so I am using one off a 71 or 72 where the lugs run right next to the rear idler wheels, and keep the track running straight. I was worried about using a original 70 stinger track. Getting pretty close to done with this sled, will need to get it out on the pond and see how it is with the gearing, and power thrust I clutch. looks like i am right a 1/2 above the highest point of the track.

I buy carbides really cheap at Swap meets, then cut and weld to fit the Ol,Scorps. Otherwise those big thick racing carbides can be really expensive. And of course keep the carbide back a little, so they do not get to grabby That what I did, I will cut to fit when the pond freezes out back, then figure out what length works best for me. test and tune.

Nice project you got going there! The 293 single is my favorite motor. Looks like a "One lunger" contender to me!!! I drive to Mora every day. I need to come over and see it. Sounds good stinger4me, Just put 78 studs in it tonight, next get carbides for the skis.

Cool sled!, butchya got something else all covered up in the back ground. Looks like a 71 Wedge, what engine is in that one? And I can see just the corner of what looks like a 400 Whip, sting, or TK. Your holding out on us, we need pics and specs on all that stuff lol. Hang in there, great job on the ol'Scorps Oh ya, one more thing, we need to get you off of that Pabst, and into some Budweiser! Weaverat, the sled under the blacket is my prized 70 634 hirth stinger. I have a converted from 71 wedge to markII chassis next to it I repainted the hood this summer, no motor yet. Not sure what I will put in it 400 sachs? the Alum chassis is my 75 whip, and you can kinda see the 72 stinger II 340ss in the one pic, my shop is a mess moving the winter toys out, putting summer toys away. Sold a bunch of scorpion stuff last week, just dont have room for it. Would like to find a 76 range whip for Grass drags. would go over it and rebuild it over the winter (IF I got time). I think the seat is off a artic cat jag, found a cover for it, will go with that seat I sit up higher way better on the knees. Oh yea you guys see the Pabst beer cases? Thats good shit, however I got no problem with budwiser, typically as long as I got a big fat juicy beer in my hand im happy

I had two sleds 75 400 whip, ran good in first heat was in third in the second race Semi final it fouled a plug half way down the track that ended my day. I ran my stinger II 340ss in a combined one lunger class so I got a trophy either way, but both races I was second running against those 250 yamahas with drivers 50lbs lighter than me lol. The 75 whip will need a engine over haul if im going to keep doing this with that sled.

Oh yea metal flake is way easier then pearl or BLACK lol i figured that out with this hood, I used my buddies paint booth for this one, Oh yea he helped too, im not good enough for black yet. I still got to wet sand and buff. But back to metal flake yet I just set up a temp booth like old scorpman did in fact I pretty much coppied all his ideals, and it works great. have fun

weverat, your last post is exactly what I was thinking when I started this post, willow this year was my first grass drag as a participant so I don't feel like i got a pot to piss in when i comes to being a critic, but yea is this the start of the end to vintage racing at princeton? I know they have gone through a couple race directors (if that's what they are called) in the last two years, Im just wondering if i go race what to expect. I was looking forward to a 71 and older class, maybe run the 72 again? going to to be interesting I may just watch this year, and see how it turns out.

Okay read the isr rules for princeton this yeat, looks like classes are by engine size insted of letter classes. I emailed and asked about 71 and older, and they replied as of right now there is no 71 and older class. I asked about running a single class, and he said well see who shows up we can add classes, what do any of you guys know about princeton this year?

Thanks weverat, i just did not want to show up without the proper stuff. I dont think these older lowe hp sleds being to dangerous on a stand. Im more scared of a clutch blowing apart than anything, i got a bunch of aluminum clutch gards this summer for all my sleds to be on the safe side

I wish you guys and gal all the best.
obj1, keep reminding the kids to be safe and to have fun.
75 Whip, I'm really quite envious. Racing combines both mechanical as well as driver skills. I've always had a certain amount of both, but have never put them to the ultimate test. At my age (58) and weight (---), it's not likely to happen. I'm happy for you that you're doing this before Ol' Father Time creeps up on you. Be safe and GIVE 'ER!!!
GO SCORPIONS !!!
Rene Your absolutly right rene, on father time. Im 38 but i wished i got into this stuff 10 years ago. My weight Lets just say ive droped alot so it should help, if im going to get into one lungers 20 pounds more is my goal, im just doing this for the fun. In not investing in the comet clutches just going to try the ptII i put together, and a tillotson the whip, well see how it works
