I have a 399 4 bolt sitting in my garage, and i got that converted 71 bubble nose, It did cross my mind a few time to put it in there and give it a try with that dual inlet Donaldson. anyway as for your suspension i guess as long as the wheels spin freely race it.

Thanks for the info on the rusty pipe weverat. Honestly if I was going to pipe a sled, i would cough up the money and have one made. dont have any money into these things just a couple items i have had for years now. I still think its hard to beat the old Donaldson exhaust.

for trail riding I like the forward mounted whip/sting TK models more, but I really got no knocks against the mid mounts, and I seen a lot of them grass draging, and they do very well in e, and f stock classed from what i have seen. having the engine and carb right in front of you is nice. I have never owned a 74 or 75 model (Yet), but have driven them, and I think the 74 75 super stingers are the most comfortable, and best handling of the mid mount scorpions. I mean if you find one you like, get it I think they are good looking nice well built sleds. I would get one if the right one came by.

Kinda a wild winter for me. First of all slipped and fell and f-up up my back, then I managed to get a hernia, and had to get that fixed, so there went my plains for racing in the wild bill circuit for this winter. Have a relic class all built and all I did was stare at it all winter, but I managed to finish the 76 range whip, rebuilt the motor, and that was about all that sled needed, and now I got a sachs sa 400 single I have been meaning to get rebuilt Ill put that in my black bubble nose 71 stinger mark II 70 stinger thing I bolted together last year.
weverat, I seen that auction in zumbrota, I should have went to it a buddy of mine did and said man thing where going cheap. well at least I got two sleds for willow this summer for sure maybe brained and Duluth too, but well see. two sleds is about all a one man crew can handle anyway. Thinking of maybe going to st. Germain again this year, its been a couple years since then, and that's where I got the sachs sa400 couldn't pass it up for $100 they don't go for that in Minnesota.

Rick my 400 range whip i rebuilt this winter is 159Q0 needle jet, 6dh4 needle clip second to top, 3.0 cutout valve, 2.0 air jet, and 30 pilot, and ended up 350 main, now my timing is up on the advanced end, and i had a air box on it with out the rubber insert that goes in it. I got a uni pod air filter to put on instead, bit the snow went away so have not tried it with the filter yet, but it ran great, and was scary fast for a little sled, and the plug looked to be a little on the rich side after running it for a few hours. now this is a range whip so im NOT sure whats the story with the exhaust with them, don't now if there more like a sting or a whip exhaust. someone told me that my exhaust gives better performance that a whips, but not my words, I just picked the sled up because it was a easy restore. but im sure a 400 and 440 cuyuna are fairly close in jetting, close in displacement, and same porting. lets us know what works when you figure it out as I got a 440 im going to rebuild this summer. also do you have the angled plug head or straight plug head on that motor? Im not sure if that makes a difference.

Yea walbro wf carb kits are easy to find. I was told to try to find and use a nos carb kit if possible, bit harder to find. I see someone is selling some on ebay for like $70, but i found some last year at princeton and got 2 for $40. walbros can be fussy carbs, I would recommend giving it a try, but with mikunis you got easy access to parts, with every component easy to find. the only tricky thing is what pilot, main, needle jet, and jet needle works best. a 32mm or 34mm mikuni will work. I guess try to find a carb off a single carb twin snowmobile engine and go from there. there is alot of info on tuning a mikuni out there. If it sounds like a lot of work may I suggest using a tillotson Hd? try finding a 7A, 13A, 14A model, and im sure many others will work. alot of them out there and very easy to tune also.

Thanks for the info rene, I like the mikuni carb postings on here that mention jetting, and other info for using mikuni carbs. I have decided from now on im using mikuni or maybe tilly hd on my rockwell/cuyuna engines from now on. Im 50/50 with luck with the walbro wf. The info that is missed the most with the mikuni conversions is what needle jet and jet needle and cutout works best, everyone ask what pilot jet, and main jet are you using, and they are important but half of your throttle is controlled by the jet needle and needle jet. Im going to find a 77 sting here soon to have a partner for my 77 range whip, and I already plain on using a power jet mikuni on that. Eric

Well at least there is grass drags, got hooked last year, and i will be recoverd here by may so ill be iching to run the range whip on the grass, see you guys then

admin sorry but that's all the pics I got, I couldn't walk around to much this year. I just set up my fishhouse and fished this year during the show. Just to painfull to walk around much for me. I think the show was down this year, they need to have a good featured sled next year. Never have featured the Sting or Range whip, 73 or 74 models?? hope its a better showing next year.

Well I f-ed with that walbro all week after work. I just could not figure it out, dug out a HD and first pull and it ripped, however i went out and picked up a mikuni today for it so far 330main 30 pilot 159 q0 needle jet 6dh4 needle 2.5 throttle valve and 2.0 air jet. perfect idle and wide open i like it, just getting a smuge of hesitation in the 1/8 1/2 range. TKjoe I notice you had a old thread where you used a 3.0 throttle valve. How did that work out for you after you changed the clutch?

here is a picture of the brass fitting for the needle seat. the one on the left is the old one one on right is the new one. looks like the needle seats in the brass fitting it self and would not need the rubber piece the old one would use to seat the needle. the old seat was all cracked up and in pieces. also i cant remember how the spring that (item #34) supports the float works i never touched it. but when the carb is sitting up right was it suppose to be wound to prevent the float from falling I thought i remember it doing that. its been 5 years since i played with one of these carbs. Oh weverat. no beer in the cooler in the pics.
